I have to admit, I am not that girl who gets giddy over purses. I’m not sure if it is because I carried a diaper bag for 17 years or what.
And we all know, carrying a diaper bag and a purse is insane.
However, now my youngest just turned 5 and I am diaper bag free. Can I hear an amen?
Since I’m not that into purses and only like to carry the bare necessities, these items in a woman’s purse are a MUST for me. Frankly, I just don’t feel comfortable leaving home without them.
15 MUST HAVE Items in a Woman’s Purse
- Wallet – It includes my driver’s license, debit card, insurance cards, and my emergency cash.
- Pocket Knife – I can’t tell you how many times this little pocket knife has come in handy, especially the little scissors. Make sure you take it out before going through the airport security. I learned the hard way.
- Lavender Oil – We use lavender for almost anything, bug bites, burns, skin irritations, etc. It’s probably one of our most versatile oils.
- Black Sharpie – I admit I have 2 in my purse for marking cups, papers, etc.
- Band Aids – I just buy cheap ones at the dollar store and place a few in my wallet.
- Tampons/Pads – I just keep them in a small baggie for emergencies.
- Plastic Baggie – I place all my receipts in a little baggie so I will always have them with me.
- Peppermint Oil – Another one of my favorite oils, we use it for headaches, breath freshener, fevers, and stomach issues.
- Pocket Tissues – They have cute ones at the dollar store.
- Lip Gloss/lip Liner – I simply just carry a neutral color with me.
- Nail Flier – I usually have a one in my car and in my purse.
- Phone – Need I say no more! Your calendar should be on your phone, too.
- Notebook/Pen – I place a little memo notebook with my favorite pen. I jot down ideas when they arise and it comes in handy when your kiddos are bored and need something to scribble on.
- Thieves Spray – I use this in place of hand sanitizer. I just place water and a few drops of Thieves in a plastic spray bottle I buy at the dollar store.
- Hair Clip/Pony Tails – I usually always have one for my daughter and myself for those hot days.
- Brush – Just a small little one from the dollar store.
- License Plate Number – I can never remember my plates, so I write it down on a sticky note and place it in my wallet. I would be in trouble if my car ever got stolen.

My daughter has asthma but we don’t always have her inhaler available. I keep Eucalyptus EO in my purse for just that reason. And it has helped not only her but several we know that also have asthma and didn’t have their inhalers available at the time. Also works wonders on headaches. I also always carry a few safety pins. Those seem to come in handy from hems needing help in a pinch, a missing button, etc.
Great tips!
I always carry a Christian book for those days I’m waiting for my oil to be changed or sitting in the Dr’s waiting room.
I also carry a small Joyce Meyer’s book “The Secret Power of Speaking God’s Word” Scriptures that reveal the powerful promises found in God’s Word.
I use my Kindle app on my phone.
Chapstick and gum! I don’t wear lipstick (or makeup most of the time) but I cannot survive without chapstick! And gum, I’m obsessed with fresh breath so it is a must! Wallet, chapstick, hairbrush, gum, and phone, that’s all I need.
mints. Ok actually it is usually lifesavers. I have dry mouth and need them, but also they help with coughs. I carry the individually wrapped ones and my family knows where they are in my purse. I also always have a pair of nail clippers. They come in handy more often than you would think.
EOS chapstick and a gluten free snack because it’s not always easy to be gluten free!
I really hate to say this but really, you are still carrying a diaper bag. You have just substituted the diapers and wipes for the other things. I am 58 and my children are grown but I still carry all the just in case stuff but I keep it in my car. I have toilet tissue, paper towels, wipes, a first aid kit , spare glasses and sunglasses, water, an emergency snack, a flashlight, a nail kit because it has so many things that can substitute for other stuff, a blanket…, You get the idea everything but the kitchen sink. I am laughing because I still feel the necessity to have all of the stuff handy for emergencies. I even have dog food for the pup. We always must be prepared it’s just a Mom thing. We are the reason for the boy scout motto: Always be prepared!
Betty, you sound like me!! I like to be prepared
For anything and everything!!! ❤️
Mints, hand sanitizer, med pill pack, wallet, gin-gins, small makeup bag, keys, small battery operated fan with spritzer (must have in summer).
Take a photo of your car tag with your cell phone
Great idea! I have actually done that before in a parking garage.
