I fibbed a tad, I didn’t teach my children homeschool biology, Wes Olson taught them this fascinating subject.
We are a large family with children ranging from 16 to 3. Since there are only 24 hours in a day, I strive to teach as a family unit.
This past year my two high schoolers needed to take a high school credited Biology course. We were thrilled to find Biology 101 and our whole family learned and enjoyed this complete overview of the world of Biology from a Christian perspective.
Biology 101 is a complete course explaining in detail the beautiful world we live in. Most biology programs today discredit God as the author of creation. Wes Olson, who develops and hosts the 4 DVD series, organizes all the lessons on the days of creation. His filmmaking background is definte with the beautiful photos and entertaining lessons he provides.
The topics homeschool Biology 101 covers:
- Introduction: Defining Life and Life Classification
- Plants
- Aquatic (water) Creatures
- Avian (flying) Creatures
- Land Animals Part 1
- Land Animals Part 2
- Mankind Part 1
- Mankind Part 2
- Conclusion: Cells, Genetics, and a Brief History of Biology
These 4 DVDs are full of accurate and fascinating information supported by hundreds of captivating visuals and graphics. Included on the fourth disc is a printable (PDF) guidebook with quizzes covering the material presented in each segment and a one-year highschool course booklet. The DVDs contain nine individual segments ranging from 30-45 minutes each.

How it Woked for Us
Our whole family would watch a lesson every other week together. The older boys would be given their printable guidebook for the lesson and were required to take notes during the DVD.
The younger ones often would be encouraged to color during the DVD, but they always didn’t take me up on my offer. After we watched the lesson, we discussed several topics of interest. Often the little ones and I would add to our study and read a book from our library that was on their maturity level. It was always fun to find a science experiment online to go with the study, too.
My older children were required to study for the quiz. I gave them approximatly 2 weeks to study their notes and the guidebook. Each one did well on all the quizes. As a final exam, I required my high school students to complete an essay on any biology topic that they found interesting during the year.
I can only say postive things about Biology 101. It was a perfect fit for our whole family. It’s can be used as a full course or an introductory to all areas of biology. You can add to make it more extensive, however, it’s not neccessary.
In fact, we are going to watch the DVD series, Chemistry 101 during our Family nights. And of course, I will be requiring more from my high schoolers in terms of knowledge and independent work.
Guess What?
The 101 Series wants one of my readers to choose from either Biology 101 or Chemistry 101 for their entire family to enjoy. This is a 69.95 value. I will be picking a random winner on July 26th a 12a. All entries will be verified. Winner will be contacted via email and must respond within 48 hours or another winner will be chosen.
101 Series provided a complimentary product for review and giveaway. However, opinions are 100% my own and a favorable review was not required.

All the lessons would be GREAT especially for my sons. One of the has dyslexia and this would be a good way to teach this course as he is beginning 9th grade in the fall. This giveaway would be extremely helpful financially as well, as my husband just recently retired with disability from the military of 27 years and two overseas tours. Our income has been dropped in half. ‘Ive been praying about which curriculum to use.
This giveaway would be an amazing way to teach my two sons Biology in which one has dyslexia and is beginning 9th grade in the fall.
