You might be lonely, but you are not alone!

I haven’t shared my story with anyone yet because it’s all so new to me, but I will be a single mom this Valentine’s Day.

I have constant mixed emotions.

One minute I’m excited and the next I’m tearful.

I have come to accept this will be a roller coaster ride for me for the next year, but I’m going to be ok.

Valentine’s Day is really nothing more than a overrated excuse for the stores to drastically increase the prices on roses, cards, and chocolate. We all know it, it’s not a secret. In all honesty, I can’t remember having a dream-like Valentine’s Day when I was married.

I have decided that I am going to do a few of the following creative ideas to divert my negative feelings this Valentine’s Day. This time last year, I had no idea that I would be a single mom, but I have a choice.

I’m choosing JOY!

6 Creative Ideas for the Single Mom on Valentine’s Day

  • Don’t Feel Sorry For Yourself. Quit it. There are so many people who love you. Make a list of everyone that has blessed you in the last year. Email or text them and tell them you love them. Don’t make this day about you, make it about others that love you.
  • Spend Time with Loved Ones. Make a date with your kids, parents, or anyone that might be going through some of the same feelings you are.
  • Buy Chocolate. Need I say no more? Chocolate makes us feel better. Just do it!
  • Volunteer at a Nursing Home – You will make many people smile by just telling them Happy Valentine’s Day. Trust me on this one, I worked in long term care for years. The elderly love visitors.
  • Bake for Others. Put on your apron and make one of these heart recipes or these wonderful easy strawberry bars for someone who makes you smile.
  • Meditate on God’s Love in Scripture. He loves you more than any earthly person will ever. He will always be there for you. He is our only true love. And that my friend, is greater than any man can promise us. Print these and pass them out to everyone. You will be a blessing to many.

You and I both will be fine this Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t mean we aren’t ever going to have an earthly Valentine’s ever again. So keep an open mind and time will heal our hearts.

I would love for you to share some ideas that have helped you overcome loneliness on Valentine’s Day whether your married or single. Trust me, you can be very lonely on this day even if you have a spouse.
