Laundry duty is a family affair in our home. My husband and I have 9 children between the two of us, and laundry is almost a full-time task here.
We all take part in this never-ending duty. It’s the only way that we can avoid the mountain of laundry overflowing into our neighbor’s yard.
We have been using our family laundry system for years. My husband purchases the Member’s Mark® Ultimate Clean laundry detergent at Sam’s Club during his monthly grocery trip.
We prefer Member’s Mark Ultimate Clean Liquid Laundry Cleaner because its performance of cleaning our clothes and towels is just as well or even better than the name brands laundry detergent and at a fraction of the cost too.
The convenient, no-mess dispenser and measuring cup ensures accurate measurement for all load sizes and for pretreating stains. This also ensures we are not wasting the laundry detergent. It’s also safe to use with any type of washing machine.
My smaller children are responsible for sorting their own laundry in plastic bins in our laundry room. Years ago, the younger children could not read but they knew what plastic bin to put their soiled clothes in by recognizing the picture above the plastic bin. They have been doing this since they were two or three.
In the beginning, I walked with them to the laundry room after bath time to make sure they understand what the pictures represented. They all caught on in no time. Now all our children sort their dirty laundry without any hastle and have a cheerful attitude. It’s just considered a norm around our home.
I printed the laundry sorter printable on card stock and laminated the pages for durability. The laundry system is so simple, but it saves so much time and effort on my part. My laundry duty is to do the actual washing and drying of the clothes. I lay the clean clothes out on our couch in piles per child. My oldest is responsible for putting the clothes away that need to be hung up on hangers. All children are responsible for putting their socks and undergarments in their own drawer.
Since we tend to have laundry accumulate quickly, I usually do at least two loads per day, so putting their own clothes away after school is a must before daily snack time.
Feel free to print these laundry sorter printables for your own family. You will be amazed how quickly your younger children will catch on. Say good-bye to messy laundry rooms, too.
