Joy is defined in the 1828 dictionary as the following…
The passion or emotion excited by the acquisition or expectation of good; that excitement of pleasurable feelings which is caused by success, good fortune, the gratification of desire or some good possessed, or by a rational prospect of possessing what we love or desire; gladness; exultation; exhilaration of spirits.
There is nothing out of the ordinary to experience passion, goodness, excitement or gladness over the joy we encounter each day from all the people and things we adore. After all, God created those emotions amongst us from the beginning. You can expect the joy to fade as quickly as it you encountered it. It’s a promise. Our spouses, children, brothers, sisters, friends, pastor, and yourself will rob you of your joy. It’s a guarantee. This type of joy is superficial and will not last. It’s not full joy.
There is only one full joy that you can rest assure will not fade. Full joy! His name is Jesus. This is a guarantee.
My favorite definition of joy comes from my Bible, and it tells me that my joy comes from God. It is that fantastic feeling of excitement, happiness, and contentment welling up inside my chest all at the same time. God is just good like that.
