If you have been in education for even a short time you have heard or seen the concept Growth Mindset. It’s not a new concept, but I believe it can make or break a classroom’s mentality and academic success.

Carol Dweck and her team became interested in students’ attitudes about their failures. They noticed that some students ricocheted while other students lost interest in the task by even the smallest hiccups. After studying the behavior of thousands of children over 30 years, Dr. Dweck conceived the terms fixed mindset and growth mindset to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. When students believe they can become more intelligent, they comprehend that effort makes them stronger. Therefore, they put in extra time and diligence, and that leads to higher achievement.

I decided that the growth mindset concept was even more relevant today due to all the unknowns of this school year. I’m teaching remotely for the first eight weeks.

So, I created these free motivational posters for classrooms for my students and, especially, for me. With all that is going on in the world, I’ll be honest, I was not feeling the joy this school year.

Despite my lack of enthusiasm, I pondered what I missed about this upcoming school year. Setting up and prepping my classroom for all my new students was top on the list.

My Growth Mindset Light Bulb Moment

I decided to set up my home office with a cute bee-themed backdrop and a dry erased board. Yes, it cost a small fortune, but I didn’t buy anything for my on-campus classroom; so why not splurge a bit. This home office is where I’m spending the majority of my days, and I wanted to feel happy each time I entered my home office.
