Finding an elementary Language Arts curriculum that meets all my homeschool English and Christian goals was nearly impossible until I got my hands on The Good and the Beautiful Christian homeschool curriculum.
It’s amazing!
My seven-year-old daughter who is enrolled in the first grade in public school was lagging behind on her reading level. She actually was the only child I did not have the opportunity to teach to read out of my six children.
Sniff, Sniff!
However, I jumped at the chance to review the Language Arts & Literature, Level One Course Set when Jenny Phillips asked me to take a look at her creative homeschool curriculum.
WOWzers!
To make a long story short, I started implementing the Language Arts & Literature, Level One Course Set with my daughter in the evenings, and she jumped 6 reading levels in 3 months. Her teacher even commented to me how she is now above average within her class. She was extremely impressed. I told her I couldn’t take any credit because I was using this all-inclusive elementary language arts curriculum that I just discovered. I wished I would have used it with all my other children.
I have used so many different home school programs in the past.
I had the blessing and privilege of homeschooling my children for thirteen years. I probably can safely say I’ve used almost every homeschool English program on the market. I desire a strong phonics and literature approach that is user-friendly and requires little or no prep time for me. I also strongly believe that one must master the Dolch sight words, so some review or drill work is necessary. I also love poetry.
I can honestly say that The Good and the Beautiful all-inclusive elementary Language Arts curriculum meets my high homeschool English standards. The author has a very similar education philosophy as I do.
Lots of reading and engaging in great literature always makes for a rich discussion. The author encourages the student to orally narrate to the teacher what was read in order to increase his comprehension skills. I strongly believe in this approach as well as the benefits of dictation.
What homeschooling resources are included in Language Arts & Literature Course Book Level One?

- The same set of phonics cards is used for Levels K-2, with the child learning a certain number of the cards during each course.
- Level 1 Mini Books
- cutting and stapling required/makes 15 books/60# gloss-coated paper
- integrated with the course, giving the child practice with the specific phonics principles being learned
- Level 1 Reader
- 294 pages/full-color/illustrated/spiral-bound
- contains “good and beautiful” style, full-color illustrations and stories that support family, God, nature, and high character, establishing in young children a taste for truly “good and beautiful” style literature designed for personal reading
What subjects are covered in this homeschool English course?
- Phonics
- Reading
- Spelling
- Grammar and Punctuation
- Literature
- Art Appreciation
- Writing
This Christian homeschool curriculum is filled with beautiful illustrations with eye-catching charts that intrigued my daughter. I appreciate how the course doesn’t stress one religious denomination but concentrates on biblical character traits.
The author focuses on high-quality literature and encourages daily independent reading. However, she doesn’t believe in pushing the younger students in long lessons and overwhelming writing assignments. There are worksheets that are short but detailed in occasional lessons.
All the necessities are included in the course set, and most resources are in the course book. This makes it convenient for large families who are teaching multiple levels and simply don’t have extra space.
I found there was absolutely no prep work for this busy mama. I could close the book at night and jump in where I left off without prepping for the next day.
The price is very much reasonable considering all the subjects that are covered. I would feel comfortable with adding math and reading great literature involving other subjects such history and science for my first grader if I was homeschooling her.
I am so impressed with this homeschool English course that I am planning on using it with my tutor students this summer. I am currently teaching third grade reading in the public school and only wish I could implement this language arts program with my students. I will continue with the elementary language arts curriculum with my daughter over the summer months. She will be well prepared for second grade in the fall.
I do want to stress that it’s important that your student takes the assessment test in order to determine the correct level before making a purchase. I found it to be a little bit ahead of the public school criteria as far as grade level is concerned.
I can assure you if I was still homeschooling my babies, all my children would be using The Good and Beautiful Course Set on their individual levels. I give this elementary language arts curriculum two thumbs up.

I’m using pre-k with one of my children and level 1 with another right now. We love it and it would be wonderful to win the next level for one of them.
I have an older child who is behind, so I’d probably use something that’s around 2nd grade or so….Thanks for the chance.
The Level One probably would be just right for her if you are going by the ps standards.
I would be looking for a 2nd-3rd grade level course.
My. How would need the PreK-7 level. I’m excited about the possibilities!
The Pre-K to 6th would be the best level for my son.
How would this curriculum line up with All About Reading and as far as a curriculum that would be somewhat Orton-Gillingham Based? It looks great, but my son has visual processing issues, and it seems that the OG method works for him even though he isn’t truly dyslexic.
I have only used All About Spelling so I can’t answer your question. Sorry.
This curriculum has just recently come across our radar and we are planning on trying it. We are definitely going to purchase levels 4 and 6, but we are also considering level K. It would be amazing to win a level of this wonderful curriculum! Thanks for this opportunity!
I’ve seen this curriculum pop up on multiple blogs… interesting! I’m not sure what level would be best as I have 3 youngers going into 1st, 3rd and 5th. Thanks for your review!
This is the 3rd time I have come across this curriculum in the last two days, I am very interested. I say probably level 1 for my youngest.
Would love to wim something so highly recommended by you!! I will definitely keep this one on my list of literature programs for my upcoming 2nd and 7th graders!!!
Oops, WIN, not wim (lol)
Thanks for this post and contest. I just learned of this program from your post. It looks like my 10 year old would need level 3 and my 13 year old is probably ready for level 7. I like the artwork and the wholesome literature. Thanks! 🙂
I’d be interested in the PreK to 5 levels. Thanks!
I have been looking at this curriculum all week. Hoping to get the history as well as the LA level 1 and 3.
Hi, we would be ready for level 2! What an awesome program! I have never heard of this one till your email was sent. Wish I knew years ago. Thanks for the opportunity!
id be interested in pre k to 4th
I think we would be ready for level 1. My son is lagging behind. If this would help him, I would be thrilled for him.
I would be interested in the 6 and up levels
I think level 4, maybe 5, for my daughter.
I would be interested in level 3 and up.
Level 2 is the one I would use with my son.
I think Level 1 for my daughter or Level 4 for my son would be great!
I believe level 2 would be a good fit for my 7 year old. Thanks!
My son would need Pre-K – 7. Level 1. Definitely open to trying different programs and this looks great!
This sounds like just what we need!

definitely going to try it!
well i have a child in just about every grade. Lol. But probably Level one and two
Problably Level 3
I had my daughter do the assessment and she is at level 4.
I would love to have my 13 year old do level 6 or 7 to prepare him for high school.
Pre K – 7th grade
Level 3!
I could use either level 1, 2 or 3!
For my middle children I think I could combine them in Level 2. My younger student would enjoy Level K. And my older daughter I think would probably place in Level 5.
Level 1 is where I would start. We’re seriously lacking in this subject!
I’m currently in the process of printing out level 3, so I would order level 4, to be ready for next year.
Level 1 would be perfect for our family.
I’ve been looking at this for a while and had my youngest take the assessment—I think level 3 would be perfect for her.
I think level 1 would be the most beneficial level to begin with for my children
I’m planning to use Kinder, Level 3, and Level 7! 🙂 I’m excited to dig into this new curriculum! We will be using the History too!
I think pre-k, level K and level 1 would be a good fit for our family. Looks like it has everything I have been looking for in a curriculum! Can’t wait to try it! Thanks for the giveaway!
Level 2 for the youngest and either levels 6 or 7 for the oldest.
I am planning on switching over to this LA program for all my kids. We will need K – high school. Yikes!
I have been hearing many great things about the Good and Beautiful curriculum lately. ? We are excited to try it out ourselves! We plan to use Language Arts levels K and 3 this next year.
I am actually going to us level 4 with my daughter in the fall. So I would need level 5. I’m also interested in level k for my 5yo daughter:
We are working through level 1 right now, but will soon need level 2 or K.
I did the assessment and both my kids landed in Level 3, although I feel that my oldest could probably fast track through it.
We just started the pre-k level and are thrilled with it so far. I am pretty sure we want to continue on with the kinder level in the fall.
Level 1 will be perfect for my oldest.
K for my middle girl and in about another year PK for my youngest.
By the way, I love that I found a curriculum that my husband loves too!
Oh I just love her curriculum! I would be using K or 1st with my son!
Would love to try this with my 2nd grade boy!
My dd(6) would need the 1st grade level. Thank you for this opportunity!
My seven year old son is struggling to learn so I would have to say the lowest level. Thanks for a chance!
I am going to start with the Level 1. I have a 12 year old daughter who struggles greatly with reading because of Cerebral Palsy…the part of her brain that retains words was effected by it. So just getting those sight words down has taken many years, but she is getting there…slowly but surely. I am hopeful that this program will help. Fingers crossed! 🙂
I would love to use level 1 with my youngest two children next school year!
I am interested in level 1-3. I have been looking for a good LA program with wholesome reading material; this one looks like a good fit for us!
I am planning on using this curriculum with my kids this next year. So excited! I am looking at level 3 or 4 and level 5 or 6
Looks like level 5 would be the best fit based on the assessment. Spelling is a big challenge around here.
Level 1 or 2. Thanks for the info!
We are currently uszing Level 7 with my oldest but would I’ve to try PreK or Level 2 for my younger girls.
Thank you for the opportunity! I’ve already purchased level K for this summer as review but will be anxious to try Level 1 afterward!
I will be using this curriculum next year with my youngest! I would love to win level 4! I wish the high school levels were finished.
I’ve just heard about this curriculum recently and I’ve heard only great things. I plan to start my daughter in level 3, and my son in K. I think I might try one of the science programs as well!
Looking at Level 4 🙂
Would love to try this…I think we would be on level 1.
Kindergarten would be perfect for my daughter.
We’d love to use Level 2 🙂 Awesome curriculum!
I have 4 boys and will be homeschooling all of them for the first time this coming fall. I will be using the Kindergarten level, level 3, and level 6! I’m also looking forward to using their history curriculum. I hope my boys are as excited as I am. Ha
