This children’s book was written as a first introduction to Roman history for grammar school students. It is too short to introduce Roman history in a comprehensive mannter, but instead recounts stories about some of the most famous heroes of Republic Rome. Each story is simply told and can be easily read by a novice reader. Subjects include Horatius and Coriolanus, romantic heroes of the early Republic; Hannibal and Scipio Africanus, military leaders during the Punic Wars; and Pompey and Julius Caesar, protagonists of the Caesarean Civil War, which brought the Roman republic to an end.
