Plural nouns can be tricky for students even in the upper elementary grades. My fifth graders needed some extra practice with plural nouns to work on during centers. First, we created an anchor chart containing the plural nouns ending in -s, -es, -ies rules. I required my students to copy the anchor chart in their READING notebook for future reference.
What is a plural noun?
Plural nouns are nouns that refer to more than one person, place, or thing. Typically, plural nouns are made by adding -s or -es to the ends of singular nouns. However, this isn’t always the case. Sometimes a noun may change spelling or may turn into a completely different word which is called an irregular plural noun.
Plural Noun Worksheets – Halloween Edition
For these plural noun worksheets, I did not include any irregular plural nouns that need to be memorized. I keep that as a separate lesson. Students always like to work on concepts when they are created with a certain theme. I found this even true when I taught eight grade last year. You can either make individual copies or put them in a dry erased pocket. These worksheets can even be used as a formative assessment or quiz.
In addition to these plural noun worksheet center, I added a center with the instructions to use each of these words in a complete sentence. In the past, I have required students to use a certain amount of plural nouns and write a story. Adding additional centers involving plural nouns is just another way you can assess other concepts. For example, we have been working on all the rules for capitalization, so I informed them that I was specifically looking for proper capitalization and proper spelling of plural nouns when they completed their complete sentence assignments.
