Last year the state standards included phonics in our 5th grade ELAR objectives. I was thrilled because so many students still need help with decoding especially the ESL students. My 5th-grade students were having a little bit of difficulty recognizing VCV syllable words.
Here’s how I taught them to recognize VCV syllable words
- Always identify the vowels first
- Place a V under the vowels
- Draw a line or bridge connecting the vowels
- Identify the consonant(s) and put it between the vowels
- Recognize the VCV syllable words
Since St. Patrick’s Day is approaching, I decided to make a festive VCV words free printable for my students. As always, I love to share my printables with my readers.
