We are having a FUN family night in honor of summer vacation. This is a huge deal for our family because this is the first year we have sent our children to public school; we have been homeschooling for the last 12 years.

And to make it more difficult, we moved at the beginning of the new year causing the children to have to change schools. My children have been troopers during all the changes, so we decided we wanted to make this family night spectacular. 

I’m one of those few mean parents who thinks it’s crazy to hand over a personal cell phone to a child before the age of 16. I know I’m not the norm, so I decided to bite the bullet on this one for at least the summer vacation months. See, I can be a softie at times. Also, my kids spend a lot of time at their dad’s over the summer, so I must admit there is some ulterior motive behind my decision.

So here is what my husband and I came up with for a FUN family night celebrating summer vacation.

Shh, it’s a surprise. The children have no idea!

We decided that it would be a treat for our children to share a cell phone over the summer months to communicate with their old and new school friends. We will evaluate the situation towards the end of the summer to see if we feel the children are responsible enough to continue with the service.

We purchased the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan featuring Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE data PLUS a free movie on VUDU ($7 value) every month per line for $49.88. We also bought them a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime at Walmart. It was originally priced at  99.92, but was on rollback for 79.92.

I was excited that the starter kit was on rollback for the first time for $19.88 instead of $25.00. This brought even more savings to our family budget. The offer is good through July 7, 2016. They set up the phone and Walmart Family Mobile Plus plan for us immediately in the store. They were very helpful. 

We know the monthly free movie will be a big hit and plan on watching their favorite flicks by streaming it through our Chromecast during family movie night. We will have to pick out of a hat to decide who chooses the first movie.

Since they are not aware of this family movie night, we are planning on watching, “Recess: School’s Out” while snuggling on the couch as a family the night of the last day of school. My kids think that movie is hilarious, and I thought it fit well with our summer vacation celebration.

Of course, we will get the munchies during the movie, so I made these cute popcorn and Swedish Fish treat bags for each member of our family. The Swedish Fish were on rollback for $4.48. Be sure to find them on a display in the front of the Walmart or in the candy aisle. It’s the “new look, same fish.”
