I have a somewhat poor vocabulary, so I am always finding FUN ways to teach vocabulary to my children.
Each one of my children has a 1.0 inch vocabulary notebook with A to Z dividers. They continue to add to it year after year. We use this notebook page for the elementary years. I require the children to put their vocabulary notebook pages in alphabetical order. I usually print numerous vocabulary notebook pages for them in the beginning of the school year.
Here are some games to help reinforce vocabulary words. We usually save these FUN games for Fridays.
Vocabulary Games
- Play Hangman – you must recite the definition after quessing the word
- Memory Game – use index cards
- Play Pictionary
- Create a FREE crossword puzzle
- Write a story with vocabulary words
- Target Practice
- Play Bingo – free bingo cards
- Play Charades
- Play Go Fish
- Play Word Scrabble

I really like this idea! My kids and I were just discussing vocabulary and how important it is to know what words actually mean! Plus, we can add dragons…
This is a great idea, Thank you! 🙂 Where do you get your Vocab words list from or how do you choose them for your kids?
I pull up their grade level and pull from the list.
