Have you ever tried Ground Beef and Cabbage Soup?
When introducing myself, the first thing I generally tell people is, “Hi! My name is Bridgette. But you can call me BLT!”
Which is usually followed up with question, “BLT?”
Like baking, I’ve gotten the response down to a science, “B.L.T, in that order, are my initials. Yes, like the sandwich, but not because of the sandwich.”
Luckily, I do like my initials, and I do like BLT’s 🙂
Having such a one-on-one connection with food, it would only make sense that I share a recipe with you! (I promise though, it’s not a recipe for BLTs! )
Being a lover of all things related to food, I experiment with it a lot (ask me about my delicious, 7 ingredient, potato soup sometime). Through these experiments, I’ve come to conclude over the years – that the less ingredients – generally the better. My favorite recipes are those that can be made with 8-9 (or less) ingredients, and that includes the seasoning – such as salt & pepper.
One of my favorite kinds of recipes are soup recipes. For three reasons:
- you can eat and drink out of the same container
- it won’t go to waste – no matter how much you make
- soups are (generally) super easy to make – no matter how much you make.
Today’s recipe is one of my favorite soup recipes. Ground Beef and Cabbage Soup. And it only calls for six ingredients & ten easy steps. Sometimes seven/eleven, if you are feeling spunky. SCORE.
In case anyone is wanting to try this recipe, I have decided to make easy printable cards (at the bottom of the page) for you (just click on the photos to enlarge them before you save/print them).
Here’s how you make the delicious Ground Beef and Cabbage Soup!
|| The Ingredients ||
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1.5 pounds of hamburger meat
- 2 ten ounce cans of diced tomatoes
- 2 ten ounce cans of corn
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
|| The Directions ||
1. Get out slow cooker & Plug it up and set it on simmer.
2. Get diced tomatoes & corn: Open, Dump (in slowcooker), & Mix.
3. Start browning hamburger meat on stovetop.
4. As meat browns, chop up cabbage & put in slowcooker.
( I cut up and down, then side to side. Each “slice” is about half an inch with each cut in each direction)
5. Once corn, tomatoes, & cabbage are in slowcooker, fill with water until cabbage is almost completely covered up.
6. Once the meat is brown, strain, then dump into slowcooker.
7. Put 2 teaspoons salt and 1 teasppon of pepper into slowcooker (add salt &/0r pepper as desired)
8. Turn slowcooker to 275 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
9. After timer goes off, stir and reduce to simmer. Let it cook for a few hours on low simmer. (During this time, you’ll want to check on it, and mix it around, and take several sample tastes – of course!
10. Enjoy!
Here are the Ground Beef and Cabbage Soup free printable cards, as promised.
*Additional tip: You CAN cook rice as a side to make the soup more hearty. You can also mix in the (cooked) rice with the soup!
If you try it, let me know what you think!
If you try it and alter it, or have your own version of Ground Beef and Cabbage Soup, please feel free to share it with me!
