For over a decade, Essential Skills Advantage has been equipping schools in the USA and Canada with high-quality educational software for grades K-6. Their programs are designed to encourage students and improve their grades.
Now, for the first time, we’re introducing these tools at home. This is a HUGE benefit to the homeschool family especially for those that are required to take standardize tests each year.
Essential Skills Advantage offers students:
- Our programs are not a replacement for curriculum, but rather an excellent resource to use to help students build the essential skills required to achieve success
- We focus on simplicity and provide a great learning tool that avoids too many distractions in order to help the child focus on the task at hand
- Programs are based on leading research and best practices
- The programs support visual, auditory, and tactile learning styles
- The programs are proven to build a child’s confidence and motivation
- We offer Math and Reading programs for K-6; Our Science program is comprehensive for Kindergarten through grade 3; Our Geography program is comprehensive for grades 4-6

My 8 year old who is starting 3rd grade this upcoming school year has been working on the 2nd grade level. Each student is required to take a pretest in order to properly place the student in the appropriate level. The pretest was rather long for my 8 year old, so it took him several days to complete the entire testing for all subjects. The program is very forgiving and allowed him to immediately start where he left off. The assessments are only included in the All-Access Plans, whereas the individual courses (purchased separately) do not have this option and instead provide all the modules for the course.
I really appreciate that Essential Skills Advantage is not designed as a distracting video game, but a structured learning environment that holds my busy child’s attention. My son excels in the reading, spelling, and phonics area, but needs a little extra practice in the variety of math concepts. He is very bright in math, but due to our math program scope and sequence we have not covered all of the concepts yet.
The yellow stars on the menu represent that the child has placed out of that topic, the black means that there are lessons available for them to practice. Depending on the day, I usually tell him to complete 1 star for reading, spelling, and math. He would spend all day on the computer, so I must limit his time.
He loves the little bell that rings when he gets a problem correct. Also, he is persistent to get at least an 80% on the activity. If not, he gets a tad upset, so we are also working on not being a perfectionist.
Essential Skills Advantage is a supplement for all curriculum choices. I like the idea that he will be exposed to certain topics that we will not necessarily cover this year, and so I can be assured that he has been exposed to it with this program. This is a perfect product for homeschoolers that must meet state requirements. Also, it keeps my son busy while I am working with older children or having quiet time.
My 6 year old will be taking the pretest in the next couple of weeks and he is excited to get started like his older brother.
Essential Skills advantage is a great fit for our homeschool family.

The Math would be wonderful to use but I would love to use all of it! 🙂
Would love to use this with my very smart, but still struggling learner.
We need all the math help we can get, so I think the math course would be best for us!
5th grade reading & language would be great but math and geography look good also
The reading would be great for my son but anything would be good!
I think the Math would be good but I also really like the Reading & Language.
This looks great. I’m especially interested in the Math part! : ) Thanks!
If I had to choose only one individual course that would work best for my daughter, then I would definitely choose the second grade science which covers concepts for first through third grade. I tend to focus on one particular area of study (life science) and would like to expose her to a variety of topics that we have yet to cover thoroughly such as light, matter, rocks, soil, energy, motion, simple machines, magnestism, sound, etc. I would love to give this comprehensive program a try. Thank you for the chance to win it!!!
I would start with the reading for kindergarten.
This will help my ds with Reading.
Reading!
Math would be a good place to start but the other courses like Language Arts would be useful too.
My son and I explore and enjoy online resources to enrich his learning. I’m sure this will be a great learning opportunity.
I would need to start with the Grade 2 for my son. I would love this program!
I would pick the Reading/Language course.
My 7 year old struggles with math, this sounds like it might be a good help
I think both reading and math would be very helpful.
We would appreciate the Reading & Language: Grade 1 course. Thank you!
I would probably use math for grade 1
My son would need to do the placement, but he would likely do well with the 2nd or 3rd.
What a great way to get kids learning! My family would use first grade.
We would love the math
This looks like a very useful tool that our family could use!! Thank you so much for giving us a chance to win it!
We’re just beginning our homeschooling journey. This would be wonderful to win!
The kindergarden science would be wonderful
This looks wonderful!! I think that the 4th grade would work best for my oldest this year. I would really like to get it for all of the kids.
