Prepare Your Child Spiritually for College with Recon Curriculum!

Recon is a new high school Bible curriculum, aimed primarily for juniors and seniors. This Bible curriculum is designed to help students spiritually prepare for college and their future. There are many battles and struggles they will face and we must guide them to the Holy Scriptures.

Each lesson is called or considered a Boot Camp. There are 72 lessons and each one contains homework that is a critical part of the program.

Recon is unique because (1) college preparation is the whole framework for the curriculum and (2) it’s reinforced with a national web-based network that your student can engage in during the tough years.

Recon Bible curriculum includes a teacher and student manual. Each student is required to have their own book to complete the suggested homework.

The Teacher’s Manual is over a 400 paged soft bound text that has everything you will need to teach the lessons adequately:

Lessons in outline form; gray-toned highlights that indicate what’s in the Student Workbook
reduced copies of the pages of the Student Workbook
bold words indicating what students need to fill in blanks
all charts, graphs and illustrations
directions for each segment of each class; and other resources at the end of the manual.

The Student Manual is complete with all material necessary to follow along with the lesson, fill in the blanks, and includes all homework assignments. The black and white graphics and illustrations are appealing to the high schooler.

How it Worked for Us

We used Recon three times a week. The author recommends completing at least 2 lessons per week. It is actually designed for Christian Schools, but can be adapted easily in a homeschool COOP setting. After reading and engaging in the lesson, we read the fill in the blank questions orally since they boys were sharing a book. This worked great for us.

One of our favorite parts of the study were the DogTAG exercises at the end of the lessons that are designed to help your student build virtue. It usually consists of a verse and applicable questions.

Each child was required to complete the Explore After Class or homework and we would discuss in our next lesson. It always sparked interesting conversation.

Our family reads the ESV Bible and the Recon uses the KJV. This was not a problem, they were able to adapt easily to the different text.

I believe Recon is an excellent Bible curriculum leading your child into spiritual adulthood. I believe it would bring many youth groups closer to the Lord and help them overcome the battles they will face in the real world. But it would require a strong commitment from the parents and youth leaders to make this curriculum successful.

We will continue with Recon starting next year when my children are closer to adulthood.
