This is the easiest chicken and dumplings recipe. It’s a huge hit in our family. We never have any left-overs!
Ingredients
- 3 lbs. of chicken (I use frozen)
- 1 large can of cream of chicken soup
- 1 small can of cream of chicken soup
- 2 cans of refrigerated biscuits ( I use the cheapo kind)
Instructions
- Place chicken in bottom of crock pot (I put in frozen)
- Place cans of cream of chicken soup on top of chicken
- Cook on High for 4 hours or low for 7-8 hours
- Thirty (30) minutes before serving time, cut biscuits in quarters and stir in chicken mixture
- When dumplings rise to the top, they are finished
- Dig in!
Notes
You can add carrots and peas if you wish. If you want to add more dumplings, just add more soup.

Looks scrumptious
Yep, it was scrumptious. We had this for dinner tonight (well Monday night) and just loved it. So simple, yet very tasty. I had already pinned this (with quite a few repins) and I have now posted about it linking back to your site. Thanks for sharing.
Hi! Found your blog from WFMW on We are THAT Family. This sounds yummy! Will definitely try it soon. Thanks for sharing!

I made this a few days ago. So easy and so good. I did find out though that my middle child is “not” a dumpling fan, but this recipe is definately a keeper. Thanks!
You are so welcome, Amy. More dumplings for you!
do you use boneless, skinless frozen chicken? I have a bunch of thighs in freezer, but they are with bones. Thanks!
Sure, you can use thighs. Just make sure you don’t overcook because the bones will start to split. But I do use boneless.
My dumplings floated right away.
Charity,
Did they turn out ok?
The family was divided. I have never had chicken and dumplings before, but I wasn’t a fan of the meal. But my husband same nephew enjoyed i.it
I make chicken stew and dumplings quite a bit in the winter, going to have to try this recipe next time! Of course, I’ll add a can or 2 of VegAll, drained, can’t wait to try this!
So do you cook the biscuits before putting them in there? Or do you just throw them in there from the can?
Brittany,
Just throw them in raw from the tube. Let me know how you liked them (:
Do you add water to the soup before adding to the chicken? Seems there is not enough liquid the put the biscuits in.
Angel,
You add a little bit of water before you add the biscuits.
This sounds great! Thanks for sharing it! 🙂
We love this, but I do add carrots and celery plus 2 soup cans of milk.

We made this the other night and it was very good. My kids loved it. Even my very picky 3 year old ate seconds.
This recipe is so easy and tasty! What I did to solve the (not enough liquid) problem was when I made it I used two big cans of cream of chicken + one of those cans full of milk + half of one of those cans of water. It made plenty of liquid and it still had very good flavor 🙂
I always add another can of soup, too. I have a large family so it makes it go further for us.
We have chess club today and I was hoping to come home to a fully prepared meal so I was thinking about throwing the dumplings in before I walk out the door. That will mean they cook for four hours. Any thoughts on this idea? Thanks!!
I have never done that before, but I imagine they might become gummy. Let us know if it worked for you.
